Hello!
My name is Khouloud Khammassi and I am a master's student at the Department of English, Texas Tech University, Lubbock, TX. I have the pleasure to share with you this project which I started to fulfill the requirement for English 5376, Online Publishing, conducted by Dr. Craig Baehr.
I tend to think of myself as an academia-oriented person. I like spending my free time reading, watching documentaries or political or educational shows on CNN or MSNBC. I try to make time for working out but it does not always work. I am currently finalizing the English translation of a short stories collection; which is my first long academic project. The original work is written in French by Tunisian journalist Tahar Fazaa and is entitled “Chroniques Hebdo”. Most likely, the tile in English will be “Maktoob” which translates into “Fate” in English-. Besides translation, I am directing an educational alumni program – Tunisian Fulbright Society – which is oriented mainly but not only towards Tunisian Fulbright Alumni and grantees. My position in the volunteer-run Tunisian Fulbright Society has urged me to use social media such as YouTube and Facebook to network. I also used the content management web-host www.freewebs.com to build a website for the program. Thus, my experience with coding is limited if at all existent. However, I am building skills in web design through this class. In this blog, you can find the projects I am undertaking. Online Publishing Projects:
The scripting exercise consists of designing a web-page demonstrating what a student can accomplish in markup.
Taking one task at a time I have come to develop the following:
-A browser detector
-A set of 5 rotating pictures with captions
-A five-question quiz reporting results to user with different categories of answer tools (radio button and drop down menu)
-A four-picture set that enlarge once clicked
-A set of three buttons that change background color, font color and the picture frames color once each is clicked
Technology Presentation: The assignment is to create a presentation about a technology of choice. My presentation is about using freewebs.com in building websites.
Website Project: the assignment is to design a 15-page website demonstrating what the students has learned throughout the semester. My project is designed to teach Arabic as a foreign language based on the most recent finding in language acquisition research. The potential user is encouraged to rely on him/herself to learn with live support provided 24/7. The website has a variety of worksheets designed to consolidate one's linguistic knowledge.
